The Players Championship
Something blipped in and out of my brain’s torn and frayed RAM recently. It was kind of like a dream in that I didn’t completely see it but what I did see was bizarre and worth more investigation. Then it was gone, as if I woke up from the dream even though I was awake when it crossed my viewing wave length. Or maybe I just misremembered it until I sat down to do this week’s picks.
I can’t for the life of me understand how it blipped in and out of my consciousness so fast, considering what it turned out to be. Maybe it was on Sportscenter’s rundown, on the right hand side of t... cont. |
Dan Lowry 400: Saturday Night Lights
Last Week: What a bitter pill to win a thrilling heads-up bet, but still suffer our first losing week of the season. Kyle Busch held off the field at Talladega, delivering on our +600 wager on him, but we lost our head-to-head battle when Kurt Busch got caught up in a late wreck not of his own making. Alas, it happens, and more often than not this year, we've been on the positive side of the horseshoe. For the week, that left us at a loss of 0.33 units on 1.5 units wagered, but for the season, we're still at a net profit of 6.71 units on 12.5 units wagered, a return of 53.7%. (Note... cont. |

Ryan Moore had a small taste of the spotlight on Sunday in the final round of the EDS Byron Nelson Classic and he spit it out.
I’m not referring to his eventual loss in the playoff to Adam Scott, who sank a 450-foot putt for the win. No shame in losing on a putt like that. I’m referring to Moore spitting several times on camera as the playoff went on.
Far be it for me to mock someone for spitting, but it’s not going to make him any friends in golf, save perhaps Pat Perez and Sergio Garcia.
Spitting somehow makes sense in baseball, not golf. I kn... cont. |
Aaron's 499: Throw 'Em In A Hat
Two Weeks Ago: It could've been an even better result if the top two finishers hadn't been able to get to the line on fumes, because Denny Hamlin (whom I'd picked at +1000) had the best car by race's end, but it was still a winning week, as we selected the winner (Jimmie Johnson at +350) and got our head-to-head wager right (Johnson over Carl Edwards at -150). Regardless, we're now eight-for-eight in winning weeks for this young NASCAR season. Last week we made 0.92 units on 1.5 units wagered (a 61.3% return), and for the season our running total is up to a profit of 7.04 units on ... cont. |
EDS Byron Nelson Champsionshipþ
I’ve won two Super Bowl pools in my life. I did the squares for the first one, in college. Naturally, people suspected foul play, even though with squares there’s no way I could have cheated even if I wanted to.
I bring it up because the course at this week’s tournament has been completely overhauled with some help from two players who’ll be playing it---J.J.Henry and Harrison Frazar. They’re both having mediocre years but what if either were to win this week. Would it feel vaguely like cheating?
They still have to play TPC Four Seasons Las Colinas even if ... cont. |
