Washington Nationals catcher Jesus Flores walks away at right. Florida won 5-4.

Dan Uggla has no explanation for his sudden power surge. Uggla's second home run on Sunday was a go-ahead drive in the eighth inning that lifted the Florida Marlins to their seventh straight win, 5-4 over the Washington Nationals. Uggla had seven RBIs and three homers in the final two games of Florida's three-game series sweep; he hit a grand slam and had five RBIs Saturday.

Los Angeles Dodgers catcher Russell Martin, left, looks for the ball as Houston Astros' Lance Berkman scores on a single by Hunter Pence in the eighth inning of a baseball game Sunday, May 11, 2008, in Los Angeles. Houston won 8-5.

The Houston Astros had as much difficulty getting a hit against Hiroki Kuroda as the Los Angeles Dodgers' usually reliable bullpen did in getting outs. Kuroda took a no-hitter into the seventh inning before the Astros broke through for seven hits and six runs in the eighth inning and pulled out an 8-5 victory Sunday.

Twins hit 3 HRs, hold off Red Sox 9-8 (AP)

Minnesota Twins' Craig Monroe hits a three-run home run off Boston Red Sox pitcher Tim Wakefield in the second inning of a baseball game Sunday, May 11, 2008 in Minneapolis. Catching is Red Sox's Kevin Cash.

Joe Nathan wiped the sweat from his forehead and spoke breathlessly about his latest, and most harrowing, save of the season. Minnesota's normally unhittable closer usually makes things look so easy when he steps to the mound to blow away another overmatched opponent. But the heavy-hitting Boston Red Sox never go quietly, and Sunday night was a prime example.

Chicago Cubs' Daryle Ward celebrates after hitting a two-run double against the Arizona Diamondbacks during the eighth inning of a baseball game on Sunday, May 11, 2008 in Chicago. The Cubs won 6-4.

Daryle Ward was so sure he would play in the majors that he practiced his signature as a kid. He may get a few autograph requests after his latest big hit. Ward delivered a pinch-hit, two-run double in the eighth inning, and the Chicago Cubs rallied again to beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-4 Sunday after the anticipated showdown between Carlos Zambrano and Randy Johnson got wiped out.

Gagne out as closer, Brewers top Cards (AP)

Milwaukee Brewers' Corey Hart (1), Tony Gwynn (22) and Ryan Braun celebrate after the ninth inning of a baseball game against the St. Louis Cardinals Sunday, May 11, 2008, in Milwaukee. The Brewers won 5-3.

The ninth inning for the Milwaukee Brewers' new closer by committee was as adventurous as some of Eric Gagne's recent outings. There was one difference, though: the Brewers held on for the win. With Gagne yanked from the closer's role Sunday after faltering in back-to-back outings, relievers Salomon Torres and Brian Shouse helped make Jeff Suppan's seven solid innings stand up by holding on for a...

Rays finish sweep of Angels with 8-5 win (AP)

Tampa Bay Rays' Carlos Pena, left, is presented with the Louisville Slugger Silver Slugger Award by Lery Duran, a Louisville representative, as part of the American League's 2007 all-offense team for the first base position prior to a baseball game against the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday, May 11, 2008, in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Carl Crawford has played more games for Tampa Bay than any player in team history, so it was fitting that he delivered the blow that lifted the Rays into uncharted territory. The surging Rays climbed five games over .500 for the first time in the club's 11 seasons, with Crawford hitting a three-run homer, stealing two bases and scoring twice Sunday to pace an 8-5 victory over the Los Angeles...

Beltran, Church HRs lift Mets past Reds (AP)

Cincinnati Reds manager Dusty Baker, center, talks to home plate umpire Dale Scott, left, about the lineup as Corey Patterson (23) looks on as they played the New York Mets during the ninth inning of their baseball game at Shea Stadium in New York, Sunday, May 11, 2008. The Reds batted out of order in the inning after an earlier double switch, with backup catcher David Ross coming to the plate in the No. 8 spot instead of Patterson.

Oliver Perez plays baseball like a kid in a school yard -- hitting, pitching, stealing bases, experimenting with different arm angles. All were on display in the New York Mets' 8-3 win over the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday in which the left-hander earned his first win since April 19. "He might drive you nuts every once in a while," New York manager Willie Randolph said, "but he competes, man." The...

Emil Brown and the Oakland Athletics used an aggressive approach to jump-start their offense. Brown hit a three-run homer and drove in four runs to help the Athletics beat Texas 12-6, ending the Rangers' season-best five-game winning streak Sunday. "I'm not a walk guy," Brown said. "I'm just ready to hack." Frank Thomas drove in two runs to give him 1,695 RBIs, tying him with Cal Ripken for 21st...

Royals end 12-game skid to Orioles (AP)

Kansas City Royals pitcher Joakim Soria (48) is congratulated by catcher Miguel Olivo following their 4-0 win over the Baltimore Orioles in major league baseball game in Kansas City, Mo., Sunday, May 11, 2008.

Twelve straight losses to the Baltimore Orioles was a dirty dozen for Kansas City Royals. Brian Bannister allowed two singles in eight innings and the Royals beat Baltimore 4-0 Sunday to end their skid against the Orioles. It was Kansas City's first victory over Baltimore since July 25, 2006. "Regardless if you were here all 12 of those losses, I think we needed to take it on ourselves to end this...

Holm's first HR lifts Giants by Phillies (AP)

Philadelphia Phillies relief pitcher J.C. Romero, right, walks back to the mound after surrendering a two-run home run to San Francisco Giants' Steve Holm in the seventh inning of a baseball game in San Francisco, Sunday, May 11, 2008. San Francisco won 4-3.

The guy who made the Giants by surprise came up with a most surprising home run against a pitcher who rarely surrenders them. Steve Holm entered the game as a defensive replacement at catcher, then delivered the biggest hit of the day. His mom, Bobbie, was in the stands to see it, too. Holm hit a go-ahead, two-run shot in the seventh inning for his first major league homer, and the San Francisco...
