Sports fans needing something to carry them during the week between NFL games should take a look at NHL betting Tuesday night. There are plenty of games on the schedule including a few teams picking up momentum heading into the middle of the month.
Carolina Hurricanes at Toronto Maple Leafs
The Hurricanes picked up a second straight win with a 4-1 victory over the Ottawa Senators Sunday. Carolina welcomed back center Eric Staal, who was away from the team for two games while dealing with family issues. Staal returned with a bang, scoring the team’s fourth and final goal in the third period.
The Canes take their two-game run into Toronto on Tuesday, hoping to get another solid performance from Cam Ward. He stopped 32 shots Sunday and has allowed just one goal in each of his last three wins between the pipes. Carolina and Toronto have split their two meetings this season, most recently a 6-5 overtime win by the Hurricanes at home on November 19.
Dallas Stars at Philadelphia Flyers
The Flyers continue to pull themselves out of the hole they dug early in the year. Philadelphia has won three games in a row heading into Tuesday. Their most recent victory was a 4-1 win against the Tampa Bay Lighting on Saturday. The Flyers are lighting the lamp during this stretch, scoring a combined 17 goals over the last three games – including seven against the Pittsburgh Penguins last week.
The explosion of offense has allowed Philadelphia to overcome the loss of goaltender Ray Emery, who has missed the last month with an abdominal injury. Michael Leighton has been solid in the crease, winning seven of his last nine starts while posting a 2.99 goals-against average and an .897 save percentage. The Flyers have gone 6-3 over/under in those nine games, improving to 21-21-2 over/under on the year.
Washington Capitals at Tampa Bay Lightning
The Capitals did a 180 last week, snapping a three game skid with a three-game winning run. Washington picked up victory No. 3 with a 8-1 trouncing of the Atlanta Thrashers on Saturday. Alexander Semin and Michael Knuble each scored twice for the Caps, whose top-ranked scoring attack has played over the total twice in those three wins while pushing with the 6-goal number once.
Backup goaltender Michal Neuvirth's performances are getting overshadowed by what the offense is doing. While Washington scores goals at will, Neuvirth has won five of his last seven appearances and has allowed just over one goal per game in those wins. The goaltenders are getting a big help from their teammates, who have stayed out of the box in recent games. Capitals coach Bruce Boudreau was adamant about cutting down on penalties and has seen his team take just 22 minutes in penalties during this three-game run.
