UFC 108 Recap - Full of KO's and Submissions

Rashad Wins Unanimous Decision Against Silva

Evans Beats Silva And Waits For Rampage
Rashad Evans ran his mouth against Rampage during The Ultimate Fighter Season 10: Heavyweights but had to run his game right in to the resilient efforts of Thiago Silva. The favored Evans rewarded those that didn’t lose UFC betting faith in him after his decisive loss to champion Lyoto Machida, surviving a third-round flurry from Silva to win a unanimous decision.

Thiago Silva now has now gone 1-2 SU in his last three fights losing to Machida in a battle of two undefeated fighters, and now to the former champion Evans. Though the late third round surge proved that he has a tremendous amount of grit and tenacity, he is getting backlogged in a cluttered mess in the division. A matchup against Jon Jones or Brandon Vera would serve him well (if he can win and reassert himself).

Evans looked like the fighter that wore the belt in the first two rounds, but holes in his defense made him vulnerable to a cut throat Silva, who wasn’t about to go down without a fight.

In victory, Evans remained poised. Instead of using his loud mouth to issue challenges to Machida in a rematch, Evans made it clear in his post-fight conversation that he wants one man and one man only: Rampage Jackson.

Rampage made a fool of himself on The Ultimate Fighter and then backed up all of Evans’ heated trash talk by quitting the fight before it even hit the weigh-ins. Instead, he opted for Hollywood and starred in The A-Team remake, a film that is wrapping up soon.

Dana White has made it clear he wants to give the fans what they want, and Rampage-Evans will happen in 2010. Whether Evans can clean up the mistakes in his game that made him vulnerable to Silva in round three on Saturday will be offset by Rampage getting back in to fight shape before the two former coaches square off in the octagon. The fight is tentatively set for May.

Daley Puts Himself On The Map
Paul Daley fought like a man possessed in decimating Dustin Hazelett with his devastating striking on Saturday. The fight didn’t even last the first round as Daley KO’d his American opponent with a counter left hook that is becoming his signature punch. The British fighter, who has bounced around almost every notable fighting league, now has a place in the UFC and a solid foot hold in the welterweight division.

Lining himself up for a fight with current champion, Georges St. Pierre, has to be the path for Daley as he carries a freighter of momentum after his KO victory. If anyone can get Daley on his back, it’s GSP. We’ll wait to see what happens during the St.Pierre-Hardy fight set to take place in March at UFC 111.

Stout Controls Lauzon in Best Fight At UFC 108
In a fight that went the distance and earned Fight of the Night honors, and $50K apiece for each competitor, Stout won every round unanimously to stay relevant in the UFC. After losing at UFC 83 and 89 respectively, Stout now has two back-to-back unanimous decisions and at 25 years of age is beginning to show maturity and patience. This marked the fourth time that Stout has won Fight of the Night honors, and fans will be exited to see the Canadian born striker in the ring again. The kid never disappoints.

Gilbert Yvel Saved By Ref, Fans Saved By Yvel Shutting Up
The second the ref called Dos Santos and Yvel to action, you knew this fight wasn’t going to last more than one round. A left-hook counter put Yvel in a daze and the Brazilian pounced on top and hammered down with punches right to Yvel’s head before Herb Dean stopped the melee with just over two-minutes past in round one. Yvel argued that Dean should’ve let the fight keep going. I guess when you’ve got a guys fist punching you in the face, you lose some perspective, because from the angle I saw this fight from, it was over the moment Dos Santos landed that left-hook.
