With just four bowl games remaining to play heading into the first Monday of 2010, BetUS Sportsbook asks five questions that should be first and foremost in the minds of college football betting fans.
Will the Mountain West legitimately have a gripe to another National Championship? Last year, the Utes were the only team in the college football betting world to post an undefeated season. They made a bit of history when they took out Alabama in the Sugar Bowl. Now, TCU has a chance to finish off a 13-0 season against Boise State. For a conference that is badly trying to acquire an annual bid to the BCS, a victory over the Broncos is paramount.
How much will QB Ricky Stanzi help out Iowa's slumping offense? The Hawkeyes were simply abysmal in its nearly three full games with QB James Vandenberg under center. The team only scored three offensive touchdowns in that time. Now Stanzi, who led his Hawkeyes to a 9-0 start before the wheels fell off against Northwestern and Ohio State, will be back in the saddle against a Georgia Tech defense that has had a tendency of allowing a boat load of points.
How gaudy will QB Dan LeFevour's numbers look at the end of his career? It's not often that you end up with a player who has recorded 15,447 total yards and 147 total touchdowns, but that's what Central Michigan QB Dan LeFevour has done in his four seasons in Mt. Pleasant. Now, the Chippewas' senior will take to the field one final time, and he could be in for a field day against a Troy defense which ranks 116th in the nation against the pass and has conceded 28.6 points per game.
Will Heisman Trophy winner RB Mark Ingram be able to pop any holes in the Texas defense? Arguably the best matchup of the BCS Championship Game will play out between the rushing attack of Alabama and the ground defense of the Longhorns. Not only does Bama HC Nick Saban have the Heisman Trophy winner at his disposal, but RB Mark Ingram's second back Trent Richardson isn't shabby either. That duo racked up 2,183 yards and 21 touchdowns. One look at Texas' defense can be daunting, though. HC Will Muschamp's crew had the #1 ranked rushing 'D' in the land, giving up only 62.3 yards per game.
Can Texas QB Colt McCoy have his Longhorns smelling like roses again? The last time that the Longhorns won the National Championship, Vince Young was the quarterback. He put forth one of the most dynamic performances in the history of the game. McCoy has the ability to pull off a similar feat on the same Pasadena field. The senior has the second most passing yards in a career for a college quarterback, and though he'll never win a Heisman Trophy, he'll be able to call himself a champion on his way out of Austin with a solid game against the Tide, and that's something that both QB Tim Tebow and Sam Bradford would by dying to say.
