After a brutal 3-6 SU start, the Bills have fired head coach Dick Jauron and replaced him with interim head coach and current defensive coordinator Perry Fewell. In four and a half seasons as the Bills head-coach Jauron is just 24-33 and finished 7-9 SU for three straight seasons. He failed to push the Bills to the playoffs in his four year reign and now has to plan his future, instead of mapping out game plans for the Buffalo Bills.

The Bills started with all sorts of optimism after signing Terrell Owens this summer to flank Lee Evans and give Trent Edwards another weapon. A brilliantly called game by the Bills in Week 1 of NFL online betting led to a narrow 24-25 loss to the New England Patriots causing many to thrust the Bills to contender status.

After a rousing win over Tampa Bay, the Bills then lost three straight including an absolute dud against Cleveland 3-6. Despite winning two games against the Jets and Sex Panthers, Jauron wasn’t able to keep momentum going. He’s been outscored 72-27 in his last two games against Houston and Tennessee.

Despite an offense that boasts Owens, Evans, Marshawn Lynch, Fred Jackson and Trent Edwards, the Bills rank just 28th in the league with 15.6 points per game, yet there’s a lot more to blame here than Jauron’s inability to generate creativity. Owens has been a non-factor, and Trent Edwards has emerged as an inconsistent quarterback with serious problems staying healthy. Not helping the Bills was inconsistency in the offensive coaching staff. They fired coordinator Turk Schonert right before the season started.

Buffalo has been an eye-sore in the NFL for quite some time and despite optimism at times, we’ve all known that the Bills were just going to start sucking. In the last decade, they’ve had just two winning seasons, finished 8-8 SU twice (2000, 2002) and haven’t appeared in the playoffs this entire decade. They’re the only team besides the Detroit Lions to miss the playoffs since the turn of the new millennium.

It’s unknown what the Bills’ long term plans are at coach. They could go after one of the many coordinators in the league ready for the next step, or they could join a long list of teams gunning after Mike Shanahan and Bill Cowher, both of whom have turned down jobs left, right and center. Taking up a sinking ship in Buffalo isn’t the most attractive job in the world. As big road dogs this weekend against Jacksonville, with a new head coach and a terribly inconsistent offense, Buffalo remains an attractive sports betting pick as well.
