In the wake of Golden State’s already disastrous season, the Warriors have decided to answer the request of their team captain and trade him. However, while Jackson was adamant about going to New York, Cleveland, San Antonio, Dallas or Houston, he has instead ended up in Charlotte. It’s pretty much like asking for filet mignon and getting a rotten slice of lunch meat. Jackson was traded along with Acie Law in exchange for Raja Bell and Vladimir Radmanovic.

For his career, Jackson has averaged 15.5 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.2 assists and has been the fiery tempered leader of the Warriors since Baron Davis left. He is best known for delivering one of the greatest on-court punches during the Malice at the Palace when he punched out a guy who looks like Turtle’s stunt double from “Entourage”. He’s renowned as a fierce leader and a scary opponent, but at 31-years of age and the Warriors going nowhere, Jackson wanted to play for a contender.

Instead he’s going to one of the worst teams in the Eastern Conference, invariably moving him from the cellar in the west to the dungeons of the east. This is what happens when you demand trades in the NBA sometimes.

For the Warriors, they get two mediocre players who are in the final years of their contracts, though The Rad Man has a player option worth $6.8 million next season. Don Nelson will get to shed contracts and distractions while Steven Jackson will be battling Gerald Wallace for playing time.

It’s not the trade he wanted, but it’s the end game that Nelson and the Warriors were looking for. When things are bad, the last thing you need is a known malcontent acting up with trade demands. Punishing him by sending him to Charlotte is both a slap in the face to Jackson, who has played for three years in San Francisco since being jettisoned from the Pacers, and a burden to Charlotte. I’m not really sure why they would be willing to pay the remaining four-years and $35.4 million remaining on his contract for a guy that plays the same position as their marquee player, but what do I know?
