The debate raging on online football betting blogs is which non-BCS team is going to get the bid to play in a BCS bowl. Both TCU and Boise State are likely to finish undefeated.
In that scenario, TCU no doubt would be the team that gets the bid, but does mean that Boise State will be left out and in the cold? Possibly. In my predictions, though, the Broncos get into a BCS Bowl game because all of the other candidates lose.
Here are my Week 11 BCS Bowl Predictions.
Week 11 Predictions: BCS Bowl Championship Series
Rose Bowl Game Presented by Citi
1/1/2010
Arizona Wildcats vs. Ohio State Buckeyes
Arizona controls their own destiny. Beat California this week, Oregon next week, Arizona State after that and USC in their final regular season game and the Wildcats will get the Rose Bowl berth. Don’t look now, but the ‘Cats put up 32 points a game and allow, on average, only 96 rushing yards per game. They have a decent shot to go to their first Rose Bowl in school history.
Ohio State destroyed Penn State’s chances of getting into the Rose Bowl last week and should do the same to Iowa this Saturday. The Buckeyes will be favored if they face the ‘Cats in the Rose Bowl.
Predicted bowl game odds: Ohio State -6 ½
Allstate Sugar Bowl
1/1/2010
Florida Gators vs. TCU Horned Frogs
I’m not changing my prediction from a few weeks ago in the Sugar Bowl because I do believe that the Alabama Crimson Tide beat Florida in the SEC Championship game. Florida just doesn’t appear as tough in 2009 as they did in 2008. Often times, they’ve looked lethargic. ‘Bama has the speed on D to stop Tim Tebow and outside of Tebow the Gators just can’t do much offensively.
But they should be able to handle TCU, right? Don’t be so quick to judge the Horned Frogs who have been more impressive than any team I’ve seen in college football this season. Florida will be favored but the Horned Frogs could pull a Utah in the Sugar Bowl ala 2008 should the two teams meet.
Predicted bowl game odds: Florida -10 ½
Tostitos Fiesta Bowl
1/4/2010
LSU Tigers vs. Boise State Broncos
If Arizona wins out it would mean that USC will have three losses and Oregon will have three losses. LSU, even though they have two losses, should win out for a 10 and 2 record. LSU has a tremendous fan base and the Fiesta Bowl folks love to give a team a bid with a terrific fan base. Also, LSU is ranked in the Top 10 in the BCS right now. So, they get the bid over Iowa in this spot.
Boise State? Everybody likes the underdog and Boise State would be an underdog against LSU although not by much. Also, who else would get this spot? A two loss Iowa team? Not likely. A three loss USC or Oregon team? I’m counting on both losing to Arizona in the next few weeks. Three losses won’t cut it. It has to be the Broncos.
Predicted bowl game odds: LSU -6 ½
FedEx Orange Bowl
1/5/2009
Pittsburgh Panthers vs. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
Pittsburgh is playing much better than Cincinnati right now, should handle Notre Dame this weekend and West Virginia next weekend, and figure to be in a good position to upset the Bearcats in the final game of the regular season. I like them to get the Big East nod and go to the Orange Bowl.
Georgia Tech is simply the class of the ACC right now. The Yellow Jackets have won seven games in a row and face Duke and Georgia, two teams that they should trounce, before beating up on Clemson or Boston College in the ACC Championship game.
Predicted bowl game odds: Georgia Tech -5 ½
Citi BCS National Championship Game
1/7/2009
Texas Longhorns vs. Alabama Crimson Tide
The Big 12 has been a big disappointment with the exception of Texas who is currently ranked 3rd in the BCS Rankings. ‘Bama should handle Florida and Texas should stomp all over Kansas State or Nebraska in the Big 12 Championship game. Texas is a virtual lock to get into the national championship.
Alabama stared down and beat the one team in their way to the SEC Championship game, the LSU Tigers, last Saturday. ‘Bama looks to be better than Florida this season and held a lead over the Gators at half time in last year’s SEC Championship. I think they keep the lead against Florida this year, go on to win the SEC, and then face off against Texas in the national championship in what should be a classic.
Predicted bowl game odds: Alabama -4 ½
