College Football Dog House for Week 11

Reflecting on the football betting world over the course of the past week, several teams have gotten under my skin and are in my doghouse. Here's who I'm ranting about from their miserable performances that cost their teams victories against the college football point spreads last week.

Oklahoma QB Landry Jones... I guess it's hard to rant on a kid that is trying to step into the shoes of a Heisman Trophy winning quarterback against one of the most ferocious defenses in the land, but is there ever an excuse to throw five interceptions in a game? The Sooners didn't find the end zone once in Nebraska on Saturday night, leaving them just 5-4 on the season and probably heading to a very sub-par bowl game by their standards. Jones was solid coming into this game as well, as he had thrown 17 TDs against just six picks for the season before his disastrous meltdown in Lincoln.

Southern California OC John Morton... One thing is becoming more and more apparent on the West Coast as this season wears on about current Washington HC and former USC OC Steve Sarkisian. U-Dub's offense looks a lot better with him, and USC's offense looks a heck of lot worse without him. Shame on you, John Morton for the game plan you came up with for beating Arizona State a week after your team got reamed by Oregon. QB Matt Barkley only went 7/22 for 112 yards with a TD and a pick and your offense only mustered a grand total of 258 yards and 14 points against a defense that had already allowed 28 points to Oregon State and 33 to Stanford. Give me a break.

Notre Dame HC Charlie Weis... At the beginning of the season, it sounded like HC Charlie Weis needed a minimum of nine wins, a signature victory, no glaring losses, and at least a sniff at the BCS to keep his job. Well, the loss to Michigan looks a heck of a lot worse now that Big Blue may not be going bowling. The Irish haven't had a signature victory yet, and the prospects look grim with trips to Pitt and Stanford yet to come. The glaring loss to Navy for the second time in three years also going to stick out like a sore thumb. Sorry coach, this one is all on your head. You just didn't have the defensive schemes set to stop the option attack, and your offense, which returned to full strength with WR Golden Tate getting back in the lineup, was putrid the entire game. Hope you enjoy your year out of coaching in 2010 Charlie!

Kansas' entire offensive unit... Remember when no one could stop the combination of QB Todd Reesing, WR Kerry Meier, and WR Dezmon Briscoe? All of those guys were supposed to have absolutely fantastic seasons this year, and the Jayhawks were supposed to challenge for the Big XII Championship and a spot in the BCS. What happened? After losing 17-10 on Saturday afternoon to the hated Kansas State Wildcats, the Jayhawks only rank 25th in the land in total offense and 32nd in points per game. The team has lost four straight games and failed to cover six straight. This week’s home battle with Nebraska is a must win, but the prospects of it occurring look grim.
