Looking back on the college football world over the course of the past week, several teams have gotten under my skin and are in my doghouse. Here's who I'm ranting about from their miserable performances that cost their teams victories against the college football betting spreads last week.
Nebraska QB Zac Lee... The Cornhuskers were arguably the biggest embarrassment in the college football betting world on Saturday. Lee had a miserable game, going just 20/37 for 248 yards and three picks. He committed three of Nebraska's eight turnovers on the day, in what ultimately ended up being an ugly 9-7 defeat in Lincoln. Lee has only led the Huskers to one offensive touchdown in each of the L/2 weeks, and that's after getting shut out for three quarters against Missouri three weeks ago. Maybe it's time for HC Bo Pelini to make a change.
Ohio QBs Tyler Tettleton and Theo Scott... Hey Bobcats, I know that you're not a fantastic team, but you had a chance to assert yourself in the MAC by taking out Kent State at home on Saturday. You were big 9.5-point favorites to stay undefeated in conference, and boy did you put out a dud of an effort. You two only went 15/30 combined for 173 yards with three picks. The offense didn't find the end zone once against a defense that came into this game allowing 26.7 points per game against FCS opponents.
Louisville's secondary... Considering that Cincinnati QB Tony Pike was out of the lineup, what was the excuse for the Cardinals to allow 468 yards of offense? It's not like the Bearcats chucked the ball all over the place all game either, as they only threw the ball 22 times, but they completed 19 of those passes for a whopping 286 yards and three scores. If HC Steve Kragthorpe gets canned in the near future, he can point to this blowout as one of the many disappointments that did him in.
The front seven for Idaho... I know that the Vandals have overachieved all season, and I'm happy for them that they're going bowling this year, but once upon a time in the third quarter, they were only trailing 42-31 and looked like they were going to be able to cover the spread against Nevada. Four touchdowns late ended that hope... The Vandals let the Wolfpack run for a whopping 484 yards and eight touchdowns on the day. That's not going to cut in if they're going to be successful for the rest of the season in the WAC.
Florida QB Tim Tebow... How on earth does anyone believe that Tebow is really a Heisman Trophy candidate? On Saturday, he went 13/23 for 134 yards and two picks, but he did rush for 88 yards and a touchdown. If you remove the name "Tim Tebow" from his statistics, you'd be talking about a total stiff. But because he's #15 in blue and orange, Tebow gets a pass even though his Gators have narrowly escaped back-to-back games that they just as easily could've lost.
