Big players step up in big games, and this week, BetUS Sportsbook takes a look at the top individual performances from last week's games that helped you cash winning football betting tickets against the NCAA football point spreads...
WRs Keith Smith and Aaron Valentin, Purdue Boilermakers: Before Saturday's shocking 26-18 victory for the Boilermakers, no one had much success trying to move the ball on Ohio State's defense. The Buckeyes came into that game allowing just 182.7 yards per game through the air, but Purdue had all of the answers necessary to spring the upset. Valentin and Smith just continuously found holes in the OSU secondary and kept moving the chains. When it was all said and done, Smith had 12 catches for 125 yards, while Valentin hauled in ten balls for 97 yards and two tuddies. Both TDs were scored in the third quarter, ultimately putting the game out of reach for Ohio State.
RB Montel Harris, Boston College Eagles: When all else fails through the air, do your damage on the ground! That's the logic the Eagles used on Saturday afternoon when they embarrassed NC State 52-20 in Chestnut Hill. BC's passing attack was anemic at best against Virginia Tech the week before, so it was determined to get something from its running game. Harris answered the bell and answered it in a huge way, toting the rocking 27 times for 264 yards and a whopping five touchdowns. That doubled his TD production on the season, as he only had five scores in the Eagles' first five games of the season before going off on Saturday.
QB Nick Foles, Arizona Wildcats: At 4-2, the Wildcats have very quietly gotten off to a great start this season, and they're garnering some love from the computers and the pollsters for the BCS. Don't confuse HC Mike Stoops' team for a National Championship contender, but the Rose Bowl may not be so far-fetched. QB Nick Foles had the game of his life on Saturday against Stanford, going 40/52 for 416 yards and three TDs. If not for Arizona's passing attack, it wouldn't have stood a chance against the Cardinals, and even though RB Nick Grigsby rushed for the game-winning score with just a few minutes remaining, Foles deserves the credit and the game ball.
RB Ryan Mathews, Fresno State Bulldogs: Where on earth would the Bulldogs be this season without their leading rusher? Mathews ripped off another 200+ yard game when he ran the ball 20 times for 233 yards and a score against San Jose State on Saturday night. It's not just that Mathews has the ability to bust a long run any time he touches the football that makes him dangerous. It's that he can get between the tackles and get those five yards every time you need it. There may not be a better back in the entire nation that can salt the clock away and preserve a cover like Mathews can, and he did it once again to the Spartans last week. He's rushed for at least 106 yards in all six Fresno State games, and he's found the end zone in all but one of those six contests.
