Conference USA bettors head towards the halfway point of the 2009 NCAA football betting season, and there are still a few teams that are lighting it up against the college football point spreads. Find out who those teams are with this week’s BetUS.com power poll…
1: UCF Knights (4-1 ATS, 3-3 SU) (LW: 1) The Knights fell from the ranks of the undefeated ATS teams when the Canes came into Bright House Stadium and blew them out. It's the same problem as always for UCF, as it just can't consistently string together enough offense to win games. HC George O'Leary may ultimately find himself on the hot seat soon if things don't improve.
Up Next: Away @ Rice (-10.5)
2: Tulsa Golden Hurricane (4-1-1 ATS, 4-2 SU) (LW: 2) Tulsa had its chance to knock off a powerhouse when Boise State came to town on Wednesday night, but even though the Golden Hurricane covered the spread, it never felt like it was capable of pulling off the outright upset. It's back to business in another midweek Conference USA showdown this week.
Up Next: Away @ UTEP (+7)
3: Houston Cougars (4-1 ATS, 5-1 SU) (LW: 3) QB Case Keenum was up to his old tricks last week against a hapless Tulane defense. He threw for 334 yards and two touchdowns in Houston's easy victory, giving him 2,464 yards and 19 TDs on the season. If the Cougs can run the table from here, he may find himself in New York as a Heisman trophy finalist.
Up Next: Home vs. SMU (-17)
4: SMU Mustangs (4-1 ATS, 3-3 SU) (LW: 4) SMU almost pulled off a bit of an upset against the Midshipmen last week, but a poor overtime session did it in. Still, college football handicappers that took the 6.5 points were thrilled with the result as it was the third straight cover for Mustangs bettors.
Up Next: Away @ Houston (+17)
5: Marshall Thundering Herd (4-2 ATS, 4-3 SU) (LW: 5) Marshall grabbed the upper hand on the Mountaineers early on, but when push came to shove, it just didn't have enough horses to stick with the Big East powerhouse. The 24-7 loss in Morgantown won't hurt the Thundering Herd's chances of making a bowl game, especially if they can get back to their winning ways in C-USA in the weeks to come.
Up Next: Home vs. UAB (-7)
6: Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles (2-4 ATS, 4-3 SU) (LW: 10) Southern Miss has had a bitterly disappointing season, but all hope isn't lost on the season yet. A trip to the C-USA Championship game is still a good possibility. The Golden Eagles went a long way towards reaching that goal with their 36-16 demolition of Memphis last weekend.
Up Next: Home vs. Tulane (-20.5)
And the rest…
7: UAB Blazers (2-4 ATS, 2-4 SU) (LW: 6)
8: UTEP Miners (2-4 ATS, 2-4 SU) (LW: 8)
9: East Carolina Pirates (2-4 ATS, 4-3 SU) (LW: 12)
10: Tulane Green Wave (2-4 ATS, 2-4 SU) (LW: 7)
11: Memphis Tigers (2-5 ATS, 2-5 SU) (LW: 9)
12: Rice Owls (1-5-1 ATS, 0-7 SU) (LW: 11)
