Conference USA bettors haven’t had a great start to the 2009 NCAA football betting season, but there are still a few teams that are lighting it up on the scoreboard. Find out who those teams are with this week’s BetUS.com CUSA power poll…
1: UCF Knights (4-0 ATS, 3-2 SU) (LW: 1) After watching the Hurricanes beat the snot out of Florida A&M last week, the Knights have to be ready for a very stiff challenge this weekend. It's been a long couple seasons for HC George O'Leary, but an upset over Miami will erase a lot of frustration and be huge in the recruiting wars in the talent-rich Sunshine State.
Up Next: Home vs. Miami (+15.5)
2: Tulsa Golden Hurricane (3-1-1 ATS, 4-1 SU) (LW: 2) The time is now for Tulsa if it wants to get back onto the national scene with Boise State coming to town for a mid-week nationally televised game. A victory would be huge for the Golden Hurricane, while a loss would probably relegate it to the Liberty Bowl at best.
Up Next: Home vs. Boise State (+10)
3: Houston Cougars (3-1 ATS, 4-1 SU) (LW: 3) Houston appeared to be on the verge of its second straight defeat after a great start to the season, but QB Case Keenum threw two 4th quarter touchdown passes to lead the Cougs to victory over SEC rep Mississippi State. It was another ho-hum day for the Heisman candidate, as he went 39/52 for 434 yards and four scores to improve upon his already gaudy numbers.
Up Next: Away @ Tulane (-20)
4: SMU Mustangs (3-1 ATS, 3-2 SU) (LW: 4) HC June Jones finally has his landmark victory after his Mustangs swiped a 'W' from traditional C-USA powerhouse East Carolina on Saturday afternoon. QB Bo Levi Mitchell went 17/29 for 266 yards and two scores in the victory, and he is the key to the Jones run-and-shoot offense in Dallas.
Up Next: Home vs. Navy (+7)
5: Marshall Thundering Herd (3-2 ATS, 4-2 SU) (LW: 5) It's been a number of years since the Thundering Herd went to a bowl game, but this may be the year that they can get back to one. Marshall took the inside track to the Conference USA Eastern Division crown by beating Tulane on Saturday. They've got a huge rivalry game in Morgantown this weekend.
Up Next: Away @ West Virginia (+19.5)
6: UAB Blazers (2-3 ATS, 2-3 SU) (LW: 6) The Blazers were off last week, and their hopes of pulling an upset over an SEC foe this week is going to rest on the arms and the legs of QB Joe Webb. With the Rebels in a perfect sandwich game spot, UAB may be able to stick around in this game if Webb performs well.
Up Next: Away @ Mississippi (+22)
And the rest…
7: Tulane Green Wave (2-3 ATS, 2-3 SU) (LW: 7)
8: UTEP Miners (2-4 ATS, 2-4 SU) (LW: 8)
9: Memphis Tigers (2-4 ATS, 2-4 SU) (LW: 10)
10: Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles (1-4 ATS, 3-3 SU) (LW: 9)
11: Rice Owls (1-4-1 ATS, 0-6 SU) (LW: 11)
12: East Carolina Pirates (1-4 ATS, 3-3 SU) (LW: 12)
