As the month of August winds down, the baseball betting action heats up in the march towards the playoffs. Find out which teams are rounding into form as potential playoff teams with BetUS Sportsbook’s list of teams that are on fire…
(Rank) (Team) (SU Record, $$$) (SU Record in L/5, $$$)
1: Minnesota Twins (63-63, -$599) (5-0, +$500 in L/5) The Twins have used this five-game winning streak to claw back into the chase in the AL Central after being left for dead just a few short weeks ago. Even though it isn’t performing so well against the best teams the AL has to offer, Minnesota is starting to really beat up on the bad teams, which has drawn them even with the White Sox and within 4.5 games of the Tigers. C Joe Mauer continues his MVP push, as he is batting .372 for the season. Ironically though, during this five game run, Mauer is only batting .250. Regardless, if the Twins keep winning, he’ll trade the MVP trophy for a shot at the World Series.
2: Pittsburgh Pirates (52-71, -$1,013) (4-1, +$376 in L/5) No one is putting the terms “Pittsburgh Pirates” and “World Series” in the same sentence, but the boys from Steeltown have played some decent ball this week. They successfully ruined Milwaukee’s season by sweeping a three-game set with the Brew Crew to start last week, and they’ve kicked off this one by knocking Philadelphia a game closer to the Braves and Marlins in the NL East. Heck, they’re only a half game behind Cincinnati for fifth place in the NL Central. If the Bucs can keep out of the cellar in the division, not only would it be a major triumph for a team that is fielding very little talent, but it should also put Reds’ skipper Dusty Baker out of a job.
3: Tampa Bay Rays (69-56, +$74) (4-1, +$274 in L/5) The Rays are playing good baseball right now, but they’re just not gaining enough ground on the Red Sox and Rangers to make it stick. Tampa Bay is on a clip to win 90 games this season, but the reality is beginning to set in that it may take around 95 wins to make the playoffs. Manager Joe Maddon dubbed this seven-game road trip to Toronto and Detroit as the “Ring of Fire” trip, and the Rays have gotten off to a great 2-0 start by beating the Jays twice. If they can come back to the Trop at 5-2 from these seven games, they’ll have the momentum needed to possibly jump the Bo Sox in the standings. Take a guess who’s coming to town next week? 1B Carlos Pena has knocked six homers in his L/5 games, which proudly gives him 37 home runs against just 35 singles this season; unreal! Rookie of the Year candidate Jeff Niemann picked up his 12th win of the season on Monday when the Rays beat Roy Halladay and the Jays.
And the rest…
4: St. Louis Cardinals (73-54, +$971) (4-1, +$271 in L/5)
5: Colorado Rockies (72-54, +$1,556) (4-1, +$240 in L/5)
