1) Matt Palmer, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (10-2, +$1,164) Palmer hasn’t appeared in a starting role since July 25th, but he is pitching in long relief and will inevitably get some spot starts for the Halos. You’ll probably get some good prices in his future starts, so be on the look out for them.


2) Scott Feldman, Texas Rangers (16-7, +$954) Texas’ right-hander hasn’t been dealt a loss this month, and Rangers’ bettors are the beneficiaries of his success. However, in spite of his solid 13-4 record, Feldman seems to be in a miserable rut of alternating good starts with bad ones. On Sunday, he was virtually unhittable, giving up just four hits and two walks in seven shutout innings against the Rays. In his previous start against Minnesota, he was awful, allowing five runs in 5.1 innings.

3) Jered Weaver, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (18-7, +$945) Weaver had an atrocious start against Baltimore on August 14th, allowing eight runs in just 3.1 innings in Anaheim’s inexplicable 16-6 loss. The ‘L’ snapped the Halos’ seven-game winning streak with their Cy Young candidate on the bump. Weaver responded with authority on Wednesday in Cleveland, pitching a complete game shutout. Hopefully for Anaheim’s baseball betting enthusiasts, that dud against the O’s was nothing more than a bump in the road.

4) Tim Wakefield, Boston Red Sox (13-4, +$922) All reports point to Boston’s knuckler returning to the rotation soon, but Wakefield still hasn’t made an appearance with the Sox since July 8th. If New York’s recent outburst against Boston’s staff is any indication, the sooner he comes back to the rotation, the better.

5) Jeff Niemann, Tampa Bay Rays (15-7, +$872) A pair of shaky outings didn’t frazzle Tampa Bay’s Rookie of the Year candidate. He responded from two four-run outings by cruising through 7.1 frames against the O’s earlier this week. Niemann gave up just one run on seven hits, while striking out five Orioles in the process. He’s got a huge match-up with Doc Halladay and the Blue Jays coming up tonight.

6) Josh Beckett, Boston Red Sox (18-7, +$848) Beckett has been absolutely unstoppable since the first month of the season ultimately pitching himself back into Cy Young Award discussions. His L/2 starts have left plenty to be desired though, as he was run early by both the Blue Jays and Yankees. With the Rays and Rangers nipping at Boston’s heels, the right-hander won’t just have to pitch like a Cy Young winner, but he’ll probably have to pitch like an MVP as well.

7) Felix Hernandez, Seattle Mariners (18-8, +$741) King Felix was knocked around for six runs on Sunday by the Indians, but three of those six runs were unearned; it was the second straight loss for Seattle’s top right-hander. Hernandez only has one win this month, and that was back on August 1st. That victory against Toronto was his only win since July 22nd.
