With the playoffs just a few short weeks away, MLB betting action has never been hotter. Check out this week’s list of the top NL pitchers that you should be firing away on the next time you place a baseball bet at BetUS.com!
1) Josh Johnson, Florida Marlins (18-7, +$995) Johnson missed out on his chance to become the first pitcher in baseball to produce 19 wins for his team earlier this week when he had his worst start of the season. The Astros ran the right-hander after just 4.1 innings, in which he gave up seven hits and four runs. It was a bad loss for the Fish, but it’s hard to complain since he had produced victories in five of his previous six outings.
2) Jason Marquis, Colorado Rockies (16-8, +$910) Marquis got the pleasure of dodging the Giants this weekend. Instead, his L/2 outings came against the Nationals and Pirates, which naturally meant good things for his statistics. Marquis notched wins #13 and #14 on the season, allowing a total of just 12 hits and four runs in the two games combined.
3) Matt Cain, San Francisco Giants (17-8, +$730) The Giants are going to be in a mess load of trouble if Cain doesn’t get back on track in a hurry. Before his start on Thursday, the right-hander had allowed 12 runs in his previous three starts. Yes, he only allowed one run in eight frames against the Reds on Thursday, but it wasn’t good enough for a San Francisco victory. That’s three San Fran losses in Cain’s L/4 starts. If things don’t improve, not only will the righty drop off of this list, but the Giants will likely drop out of the playoff race as well.
4) Carlos Zambrano, Chicago Cubs (14-6, +$717) Speaking of dropping out of the playoff race… Was Big Z’s trip to the DL a sign that Chicago’s season was over? The Cubbies are seven back in the Wild Card chase and eight back of the Cards in the division going into this week. Zambrano’s pending return to the rotation may be far too little, far too late.
5) Wandy Rodriguez, Houston Astros (16-9, +$672) Rodriguez was rocked by Milwaukee back on the 14th when he allowed a career-high 10 runs in just four innings of work. It was the worst outing of his outstanding ’09 season by far, but he rebounded in style, outdueling Josh Johnson and the Marlins in Houston’s 4-1 victory.
6) Adam Wainwright, St. Louis Cardinals (18-8, +$606) Does anyone realize just how good Adam Wainwright has been over his L/11 starts? The Cards are 9-2 in those 11 outings, and the righty hasn’t allowed more than two runs in any of those games. His ERA is a svelte 1.44. All of the pundits are busy talking about Chris Carpenter for the NL Cy Young Award. Right team, but they might be salivating over the wrong pitcher in the rotation…
7) Randy Wolf, Los Angeles Dodgers (17-10, +$575) Manager Joe Torre doesn’t ask much out of Wolf, but lately, he has been getting some tremendous efforts from his left-hander. Not only has Wolf led the Dodgers to four straight wins, but he’s also red hot with the bat! He’s 4/5 with four RBIs in his L/2 starts.
