The second half of the baseball betting season has finally begun! Check out BetUS Sportsbook’s NL Power Poll that finds the LA Dodgers perched atop once again as we continue through the month of August…
1) Los Angeles Dodgers (74-51, +$1,472) (4-3, +$166 LW) (LW: 1) The lead in the NL West is down to just 3.5-games over the Rockies… Should Dodgertown really be worried about missing the playoffs? The truth of the matter is that they still have 6.5 on the Giants, so that shouldn’t be an issue. But should LA choke away this NL West lead, it would be pretty embarrassing.
On Deck: @ Rockies, @ Reds
2) Colorado Rockies (70-54, +$1,350) (5-1, +$334 LW) (LW: 2) It’s starting to feel a lot more like another “Rocktober” is right around the corner. The Rockies finally have a bit of breathing room in the NL Wild Card race, as they’ve opened up a three-game lead on the field. A win over San Fran today would make it four.
On Deck: vs. Dodgers, @ Giants
3) Philadelphia Phillies (71-50, +$1,044) (5-1, +$299 LW) (LW: 5) A second straight 5-1 stretch has opened up a whopping eight-game NL East lead in the loss column. Barring a colossal collapse, the Phillies should successfully defend their NL East title. Step 2 is defending their World Series title.
On Deck: @ Pirates, vs. Braves
4) San Francisco Giants (67-57, +$946) (4-3, +$137 LW) (LW: 4) It may have been a good week for Giants’ bettors, but the bottom line is that losing two out of three to the Rockies really crippled their Wild Card chances. There’s still four more with the Rocks this week though, and anything less than 3-1 will be very disappointing.
On Deck: vs. Diamondbacks, vs. Rockies
5) St. Louis Cardinals (72-54, +$871) (5-2, +$288 LW) (LW: 6) The other five teams in the NL Central should throw up the white flag now. After opening up more ground on the Cubbies this week, the Cards are almost certainly going to win the NL Central. The question is whether the newly acquired John Smoltz, who pitched fantastically in his first start as a Card, will be the answer to the problems of the back half of the rotation or not.
On Deck: vs. Astros, vs. Nationals
6) Florida Marlins (65-59, +$760) (2-4, -$140 LW) (LW: 3) Not only did Florida drop itself further out of the Wild Card chase last week, but after losing two out of three in Atlanta, it let the Braves back in the race as well. One would like to think with the Mets twice, the Padres, the Braves, and the Nationals twice in the next three weeks that the Fish can make up some solid ground.
On Deck: vs. Mets, vs. Padres
7) Houston Astros (61-63, +$88) (4-2, +$164 LW) (LW: 7) The ‘Stros had their four-game winning streak snapped on Sunday by the D’Backs, but taking two out of three against the Fish earlier in the week put a severe damper on the Marlins’ playoff hopes.
On Deck: @ Cardinals, @ Diamondbacks
8) Atlanta Braves (66-58, -$142) (5-2, +$126 LW) (LW: 8) Does anyone realize that the Braves are only four back in the Wild Card and at least within a reasonable 6.5 games of the Phillies for the lead in the NL East? The problem is that they’ve still got Florida, Colorado, and San Francisco to hop to get to the Wild Card. More weeks like this will be needed to pull off the improbable feat.
On Deck: vs. Padres, @ Phillies
And the rest…
9) Milwaukee Brewers (60-63, -$629) (2-4, -$285 LW) (LW: 9)
10) New York Mets (57-67, -$834) (2-5, -$166 LW) (LW: 11)
11) Pittsburgh Pirates (51-71, -$1,042) (5-1, +$572 LW) (LW: 15)
12) Chicago Cubs (62-60, -$1,104) (2-5, -$549 LW) (LW: 10)
13) San Diego Padres (52-74, -$1,436) (3-4, +$25 LW) (LW: 14)
14) Cincinnati Reds (52-71, -$1,542) (2-4, -$295 LW) (LW: 12)
15) Arizona Diamondbacks (55-70, -$1,752) (1-6, -$465 LW) (LW: 13)
16) Washington Nationals (44-80, -$2,693) (1-5, -$433 LW) (LW: 16)
