The second half of the baseball betting season is in high gear! Check out the NL Power Poll as we proceed through the month of August…
1) Los Angeles Dodgers (70-48, +$1,296) (3-3, -$42 LW) (LW: 1) The Dodgers had better not look in their rear view mirror as objects are significantly closer than they appear. They had uncharacteristically dropped six of their previous eight before knocking off Arizona 9-3 on Sunday. Maybe a nice long home-stand will get the boys in blue back on track.
On Deck: vs. Cardinals, vs. Cubs
2) Colorado Rockies (65-53, +$1,016) (4-3, -$24 LW) (LW: 2) Much like the Giants, the Rockies missed out on a great chance to hack into that five-game deficit in the NL West. The lead looks manageable now, but with the Marlins and a host of other teams coming up quickly from behind, the playoffs aren’t a guarantee.
On Deck: @ Nationals, vs. Giants
3) Florida Marlins (63-55, +$900) (5-2, +$220 LW) (LW: 4) The Fish keep on fighting, and had they picked up the win in the second half of yesterday’s double dip at Land Shark Stadium, they would’ve been in a tie for the Wild Card lead. As it is, the Giants and Rockies have to be scared about how close Florida has gotten.
On Deck: @ Astros, @ Braves
4) San Francisco Giants (63-54, +$809) (2-4, -$191 LW) (LW: 3) The Giants had a great chance to pick up ground on the Dodgers, but they failed to do so this week thanks to some lackluster offensive efforts. They didn’t score more than five runs once this week, and haven’t broken that barrier in nine straight games.
On Deck: @ Reds, @ Rockies
5) Philadelphia Phillies (66-49, +$745) (5-1, +$449 LW) (LW: 5) For as hot as Florida has been, the Phillies have found a way to keep enough breathing room between themselves and the rest of the NL East to remain comfortable. Winning five out of six on this road trip was critical. The next ten are all against the bottom-feeders of the NL.
On Deck: vs. Diamondbacks, @ Mets
6) St. Louis Cardinals (67-52, +$583) (5-1, +$329 LW) (LW: 6) Thanks to the fact that they picked up wins in eight of their L/9, the Cards have opened up a five-game lead in the NL Central and look to be in a comfortable position. Since getting shut out by the Mets on August 5th, the team has scored at least four runs in every game.
On Deck: @ Dodgers, @ Padres
7) Houston Astros (57-61, -$76) (2-5, -$228 LW) (LW: 7) The playoff push is probably over for the Astros. After several weeks of playing right around .500 ball, Houston lost five of its first six on this seven-game road trip and fell eight games back in the Wild Card and 9.5 back in the NL Central. A sweep of Florida at home this week almost feels like a must, but even that may not do the trick.
On Deck: vs. Marlins, vs. Diamondbacks
8) Atlanta Braves (61-56, -$268) (3-2, +$56 LW) (LW: 10) The Braves have made enough strides to get themselves back into the thick of the NL Wild Card chase as well. There are a lot of teams between themselves and the Rockies though, and anything less than taking two out of three at home against the Fish next weekend would be a critical blow.
On Deck: @ Mets, vs. Marlins
And the rest…
9) Milwaukee Brewers (58-59, -$344) (3-3, -$81 LW) (LW: 8)
10) Chicago Cubs (60-55, -$565) (2-4, -$225 LW) (LW: 9)
11) New York Mets (55-62, -$668) (3-3, +$20 LW) (LW: 11)
12) Cincinnati Reds (50-67, -$1,247) (2-5, -$356 LW) (LW: 12)
13) Arizona Diamondbacks (54-64, -$1,287) (4-2, +$163 LW) (LW: 15)
14) San Diego Padres (49-70, -$1,461) (2-4, -$137 LW) (LW: 13)
15) Pittsburgh Pirates (46-70, -$1,614) (1-5, -$212 LW) (LW: 14)
16) Washington Nationals (43-75, -$2,266) (3-3, +$97 LW) (LW: 16)
