AL's Worst $$$ Pitchers

MLB BETTING – Worst AL $$$ Pitchers through 8/16

As the second half of the baseball betting season continues, BetUS Sportsbook takes a look at what American League pitchers you should be fading away on for your next MLB bet.

1) Ian Snell, Seattle Mariners (4-14, -$930) The Mariners are probably really disappointed they traded for Snell. It appears as though the change of scenery really hasn’t helped the right-hander who was traded from Pittsburgh at the deadline. He’s 0-1 and has given up 13 runs in 13.1 innings for the M’s in three appearances. The Mariners are 0-3 in those three starts.

2) Jason Berken, Baltimore Orioles (3-12, -$870) Berken picked up a rare victory in Toronto two starts ago, but his numbers were still nothing to write home about. He allowed three runs in six innings, but did strike out six Jays in the process. It was arguably one of his best starts of the season. That’s never a good sign when a day in which you have a 4.50 ERA is considered a great outing. The righty returned to form against Oakland on Wednesday when he allowed four runs in five innings and suffered his tenth loss in 15 starts this season.

3) James Shields, Tampa Bay Rays (11-14, -$856) The Rays have lost four of the L/5 games in which Shields has started this season, and in each of those instances, they were the choice of the oddsmakers. It’s still hard to believe that “Big Game James” is just 7-9 this year in spite of the fact that he has a 3.88 ERA. He’ll need to be a lot better in his last 7-8 starts of the season in order for the Rays to catch up with the Rangers and Red Sox in the AL Wild race.

4) Jeremy Guthrie, Baltimore Orioles (8-16, -$769) Guthrie had yet another miserable start for the O’s on Sunday, allowing seven runs in 5.2 innings. It marked the fourth time in his L/5 starts that he allowed at least five earned. All five have been losses. Since joining the Orioles in 2007, the righty is just 24-29, but with a 5.66 ERA this year, 2009 has clearly been his worst season.

5) Armando Galarraga, Detroit Tigers (9-14, -$760) Galarraga rebounded from three straight pretty lousy starts to put up a respectable effort against the Royals on Sunday. Unfortunately, allowing two runs in five innings wasn’t enough for the Tigers to pick up a win against the Royals, marking the worst loss for Galarraga (-181) all season.

6) Brian Tallet, Toronto Blue Jays (6-13, -$753) After being relegated to the bullpen for a couple weeks, Tallet came back to the rotation to face the Rays on Saturday night. He allowed five runs on ten hits in 5.2 innings in Toronto’s 8-3 loss. He has now allowed 18 runs in his L/3 starts, all of which have come against the Rays. He hasn’t picked up a ‘W’ since June 23rd.

7) Sidney Ponson, Kansas City Royals (1-8, -$700) Happy trails, Sidney Ponson! The Royals cut the right-hander after his last start in July when he allowed seven runs in 4.1 innings against the Rays. Does this signal the end of his career?
