MLB Betting – Who’s Hot MLB’s Hottest ‘Under’ Teams
Even though the summer months are here, the run production in baseball doesn’t seem to be picking up any. That’s a recipe for an ‘under’ bettors delight! Check out this week’s list of the best ‘under’ teams in baseball over the L/5 days…
(Rank) (Team) (O/U Record) (O/U Record in L/5)
1: Philadelphia Phillies (50-60-6) (0-5 in L/5) The pitching staff for the Phillies has been absolutely fantastic since they acquired LHP Cliff Lee from the Indians right before the MLB trade deadline. They’ve only averaged conceding 3.56 runs per game since Lee’s first start on July 31st, and that number would be an every gaudier 3.00 if not for the fact that they allowed 12 runs to the Marlins on August 9th. Lee has thrown 24 innings in his first three starts in Philly, and he has only allowed one run in each of those outings. RHP Pedro Martinez looked good for his second straight start last night, and thanks to the relief of LHP Jaime Moyer, Pedro led the Phils to their second victory in his second start in the majors this year.
2: Washington Nationals (56-59-4) (1-3-1 in L/5) The only real story of any importance out of Washington’s camp is that the Nats successfully signed #1 overall pick Stephen Strasburg just minutes before he would become eligible to go back into the MLB draft. The pitching staff in the majors may have gotten the memo that all of their jobs may be on the line in a hurry, as they have only allowed 14 runs over their L/4 games to “lower” their team ERA to 4.99 for the season. The staff still ranks in the bottom three in baseball in just about every major pitching category, so the signing of Strasburg was critical even though he probably won’t make an appearance for the big league squad until next season.
3: Detroit Tigers (48-66-4) (1-3-1 in L/5) The Tigers have won three of their L/4 games to open up a slightly more comfortable three game lead in the AL Central over the White Sox. It’s all been thanks to their pitching staff, which has allowed just nine runs in its L/5 games after allowing an average of 7.83 runs per game in its previous six. The batting order may have dropped ten runs on the Royals on Saturday, but aside from that, the bats have been awfully quiet of late. Yesterday’s acquisition of 1B/OF Aubrey Huff should help a unit that is only averaging 4.62 runs per game this season. Huff is batting .253 with 13 homers and 72 RBIs, but more importantly, he is batting .324 with runners in scoring position, a category in which the Tigers have struggled in all season long. This 3-1-1 mark in Detroit’s L/5 games for ‘under’ bettors snapped a string of seven straight ‘over’ contests.
And the rest…
4: Atlanta Braves (51-62-6) (2-3 in L/5)
5: Boston Red Sox (51-59-8) (2-3 in L/5)
