MLB BETTING – AL $$$ Power Poll through 8/16
The second half of the MLB season is finally here, and it’s time for baseball bettors to sink their teeth into the action. Now that your engine is revved up again, check out the AL Power Poll…
1) Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (70-45, +$2,434) (5-1, +$417 LW) (LW: 1) The Angels extended their lead in the AL West to 4.5-games over a Texas club that is playing solid baseball. They’re still smacking the cover off the ball, as demonstrated by their 17 run and 23 hit outburst against the Orioles pitching staff on Sunday.
On Deck: @ Indians, @ Blue Jays
2) Texas Rangers (66-50, +$1,943) (4-2, +$200 LW) (LW: 2) The Rangers have run down the Red Sox and taken over the lead in the AL Wild Card chase. They took control by taking two out of three against the BoSox over the weekend, but the difficult part of their schedule isn’t over yet. After playing four with Minnesota at home to start the week, a nine game road trip with stops in Tampa Bay and New York are on deck.
On Deck: vs. Twins, @ Rays
3) New York Yankees (74-44, +$718) (5-2, +$181 LW) (LW: 4) Have the Yankees really put the AL East away? They’re 7.5 clear of the BoSox, and barring a sweep at Fenway Park next week, they should really be ok.
On Deck: @ Athletics, @ Red Sox
4) Seattle Mariners (61-57, +$645) (3-4, -$20 LW) (LW: 3) The Mariners are starting to fade, but they’re holding on to slim hopes of making the playoffs in the American League. They’re going to need to really go on a run in a hurry though, as making up six games on three teams with 50 or so games left to play is a tall task.
On Deck: @ Tigers, @ Indians
5) Chicago White Sox (60-58, +$273) (3-3, +$5 LW) (LW: 5) The Palehose really needed to do better than 3-3 on this six-game West Coast roadie. The next six may be against the worst the AL has to offer, but after that comes four in Boston, three in Yankee Stadium, three in the Baggie Dome, and then four at home with Boston… Oh yeah, there’s still another West Coast swing in the middle of September as well. It really could be 5-1 or bust this week.
On Deck: vs. Royals, vs. Orioles
6) Detroit Tigers (62-55, +$93) (3-4, -$181 LW) (LW: 7) The Tigers rebounded from losing three of four to the Red Sox by winning three straight. They had a great chance to sweep the Royals out of town, but lost 3-2 on Sunday. The schedule is about to get significantly harder though.
On Deck: vs. Mariners, @ Athletics
7) Boston Red Sox (66-51, +$75) (4-3, +$100 LW) (LW: 8) Boston’s biggest struggles seem to be over, but losing two out of three games in Arlington over the weekend knocked it out of the Wild Card spot. Twenty of the next 28 are against possible playoff teams, so the Sox had better start to play better ball against the best teams in the AL in a hurry to make the second season.
On Deck: @ Blue Jays, vs. Yankees
8) Tampa Bay Rays (63-54, -$129) (2-4, -$309 LW) (LW: 6) Tampa Bay looks to have righted the ship after an awful 1-5 West Coast swing. They took two out of three against the Jays to stick within striking distance of the Rangers and Red Sox in the AL Wild Card race. Assuming it doesn’t fall asleep at the wheel, Tampa Bay could be the Wild Card leader after a series against Texas this weekend.
On Deck: vs. Orioles, vs. Rangers
And the rest…
9) Oakland Athletics (52-65, -$572) (3-3, +$20 LW) (LW: 9)
10) Toronto Blue Jays (55-61, -$1,108) (2-4, -$137 LW) (LW: 11)
11) Minnesota Twins (56-61, -$1,179) (2-4, -$460 LW) (LW: 10)
12) Cleveland Indians (51-66, -$1,467) (3-3, +$58 LW) (LW: 13)
13) Baltimore Orioles (48-69, -$1,647) (2-4, -$263 LW) (LW: 12)
14) Kansas City Royals (46-71, -$2,023) (3-3, +$229 LW) (LW: 14)
