MLB Betting – Best ‘Over’ Umps
Games may be flying ‘under’ the ‘total’ at a ridiculous clip of late in the MLB betting season, but that doesn’t mean that every umpire is contributing to that effort. Check out the list of the top ‘over’ umps in baseball this season.
1: Jeff Nelson (14-7-1): Nelson’s been hot as anything for ‘over’ bettors of late, scoring victories for them in four straight and eight out of nine. In that run, he has seen some obscene numbers hit the board, including a whopping 20 runs in his game between the Royals and the Twins on August 11th. In those nine starts, he has umpped the MLB betting affairs to an average of 11.3 runs per game, which has raised his average up to 10.7 for the season.
2: Jim Reynolds (14-7): There has only been one game since the All-Star Break in which Reynolds was behind the dish that failed to reach the baseball betting ‘total’. Since that point, he has had at least seven runs hit the board in every game. In five of those seven appearances, the game reached at least 13 runs. Reynolds may only be averaging 9.8 runs per game this year, but in his L/7 (six of which were victories for ‘over’ bettors), he has averaged a whopping 12.1 runs per game.
3: Tim McClelland (15-8-3): In spite of the fact that McClelland has the highest runs per game ratio for baseball umps this season at 11.6, McClelland has actually cooled off for ‘over’ bettors of late. He is only 7-6-2 in his L/15 outings, which is a far cry from the 8-2-1 mark which he started the season at. Take a look back at some of those pitchers that were in ‘over’ contests from the beginning of the season though, and it’s easy to tell why McClelland’s numbers started so high. Guys like Todd Wellemeyer, Oliver Perez, Anthony Ortega, Carlos Silva, Scott Kazmir, Manny Parra, and Fausto Carmona haven’t exactly panned out this season.
4: Mike Everitt (16-9-1): Everitt has the most victories for ‘over’ bettors for any umpire on the season with 16. He’s posted five straight games with at least ten runs on the board, all five of which went past the MLB betting ‘total’. He’s issuing a ton of walks along the way, which isn’t helping pitchers’ cases any. In four of his L/6 starts, Everitt has given out at least ten free passes.
5: Mike Estabrook (8-5): Estabrook may not be the man behind the dish in as many outings as the average umpire, but boy, has he lit the world on fire for ‘over’ bettors lately! He saw 22 runs go up on the board in his last outing between the Halos and O’s, and since July 1, his averaged runs per game has been a lofty 12.14. ‘Over’ bettors are 5-2 in that stretch. They’ve also picked up three straight MLB wagering victories. Dating back to last season, Estabrook is 11-5 in his L/16 umpped games for ‘over’ bettors.
