2) Texas Rangers (62-48, +$1,743) (3-4, -$57 LW) (LW: 2) For as inexcusable as it was for the Angels to lose two out of three to Texas, it was even more embarrassing for the Rangers to narrowly avoid being swept by the Athletics. A huge series with Boston is up next.

3) Seattle Mariners (58-53, +$665) (3-2, +$222 LW) (LW: 4) The Mariners may still be within striking distance of the AL Wild Card spot, but they’re going to need to get going pretty quickly. Taking two out of three at home against the Rays was a step in the right direction.

4) New York Yankees (69-42, +$537) (6-0, +$632 LW) (LW: 8) It’s pretty clear now that the Yankees are the team to beat in the majors. Someone is going to have to beat them in their new stadium in order to win the World Series, and that task is going to be difficult. Ask the Red Sox…

5) Chicago White Sox (57-55, +$268) (3-3, -$141 LW) (LW: 5) The window of opportunity is starting to close on the White Sox. Losing two out of three at home to the Tribe leaves them four games in the loss column behind the Tigers for the lead in the AL Central.

6) Tampa Bay Rays (61-50, +$180) (4-2, +$287 LW) (LW: 7) The Rays did what they badly needed to do when they swept their mini-two-game set with the Red Sox at the Trop, but they bombed in two out of three games in Seattle on this six-game roadie. The schedule gets a lot easier after this though, so Tampa Bay isn’t going away.

7) Detroit Tigers (59-51, +$274) (5-2, +$119 LW) (LW: 6) Have the Tigers finally put the Twins and White Sox to rest? They’ve got four games in the loss column on the Sox and have put Minnesota 5.5 games in the rear view mirror after taking two out of three against the Twinkies over the weekend.

8) Boston Red Sox (62-48, -$25) (0-6, -$608 LW) (LW: 3) All together now… Uh-oh… The Red Sox may still be in the AL Wild Card spot right now, but they may be as good as dead. They’re in a dead heat with the Rangers and the Rays are only 1.5 games behind. Losing six games in six nights to the combination of the Rays and Yankees really put a damper on Boston’s season, but the schedule really doesn’t get any easier from here. The Sox are paying now for what they didn’t make up in the standings when they were facing the Orioles and Royals seemingly every week.
