Let’s take a look at some of the golfers with a good chance to Miss the Cut in the 2009 British Open.

Tee-off: 7/16/2009

Golf: British Open To Miss the Cut

1. Padraig Harrington +200 - - Wait a second…I like Padraig to have a chance to win the British Open and to Miss the Cut? Yep. It’s called hedging my bets. Harrington hasn’t made the cut in the last 5 tournaments he’s played in that could have garnered him world ranking points. He’s got a good shot to make that 6 in a row this week in the British Open.

2. Camilo Villegas +150 - - Yes, I know, he’s only missed two cuts this year in his tournaments on the PGA Tour but he doesn’t appear to have what it takes for this Major. Villegas can be off or on. I’m betting he’s off as he’s struggled recently in his Tour events and even though this is at Turnberry, it is a Tour event. We shall see.

3. Vijay Singh +150 - - Last year’s FedEx Cup winner has missed 5 cuts out of 11 PGA Events in 2009. He did finish 7th at the AT&T National in his most recent tournament but Turnberry is going to be vastly different for Vijay. I think he has another month before getting it into gear.

4. Davis Love III +120 - - Davis Love gets into this Major after not qualifying for the U.S. Open. Four missed cuts out of 17 PGA Events means that the potential for a victory in this category is there. Not only that, but his game isn’t suited that well at all for Turnberry’s weather and length. He should have major issues out there on Thursday and Friday.

5. Angel Cabrera +125 - - Out of 10 PGA Tournaments started this year, Cabrera has missed the cut in 4 of them. That’s 4 out of 10 which makes him a terrific wager at the odds to miss the cut in the 2009 British Open. He too could be compromised by the weather and distance. Also, gamblers can’t read too much into his Masters’ victory as he lucked into a few situations and Kenny Perry just totally bombed in the final round.

6. Anthony Kim +200 - - It was apparent that Kim needs to work on his mental game before challenging for a Major. As good as he can be, and he can be very good, he can also be very bad. He stepped it up in both the Masters and the U.S. Open. So, making the cut isn’t out of the question, but he also missed the cut in the Byron Nelson, the TPC and the FBR Open. All three of those courses were easier than Turnberry.

7. Geoff Ogilvy +200 - - Ogilvy hasn’t missed a cut in 13 straight PGA Events but, man, he has been close lately and success at Turnberry requires distance off the tee. Ogilvy is ranked 48th in that category. Greens hit in regulation? Ogilvy is ranked 70th. He could be in trouble because he might never get to this terrific short game.
