MLB BETTING – NL $$$ Power Poll through 5/4
Manager Joe Torre’s Dodgers remain atop the NL Power Poll this week (the last NL Power Poll) with a pair of NL Central clubs holding down the #2 and #3 slots. The following NL teams have paid out or pissed-off for sports bettors through the first month of the season….
1) Los Angeles Dodgers (18-8, +$932) (LW: 1) The Dodgers are now a perfect 10-0 at home after busting out the brooms with a four-game sweep of the Padres. There’s seven more home games on the schedule this week, so will it keep up? If the pitching staff continues giving up just 2.25 runs per game like it did in the first four games of this home stand, the answer may be a resound yes.
On Deck: vs. Diamondbacks, vs. Nationals, vs. Giants
2) St. Louis Cardinals (17-8, $768) (LW: 3) Manager Tony LaRussa’s club did its job on a six-game roadie to the East Coast, taking four of the six games, including three of the four as short underdogs. Don’t tell anyone, but 1B Albert Pujols has quietly put together another great start to the season, as he is batting .356 and has already blasted off nine times this year.
On Deck: vs. Phillies, vs. Pirates, @ Reds
3) Cincinnati Reds (13-11, +$366) (LW: 6) It wasn’t exactly a banner week for the Reds, as they went just 3-3, but my, were those three wins impressive! Cincy pitched three shutouts this week, and has now held opponents to an average of exactly one run per game in its L/10 victories. Too bad the Reds have given up 7.6 runs per game in their L/10 losses.
On Deck: @ Marlins, vs. Brewers, vs. Cardinals
4) Florida Marlins (14-11, +$354) (LW: 5) Florida bettors may not have had a winning week, but they’ll take it after the disastrous week two weeks ago. The highlight of the week came when SP Josh Johnson stood toe-to-toe with Mets’ ace Johan Santana and knocked off the Cy Young candidate for the second time this season. Losing the L/3 games of a four-game set in Wrigley Field had to sting, though.
On Deck: vs. Reds, vs. Braves, @ Rockies
5) Pittsburgh Pirates (12-12, +$229) (LW: 2) It’s never good when you’re blanked three times in four games, but that’s what the Pirates went through this week. What’s perhaps even more embarrassing is the fact that they were favored in Friday’s 4-0 whitewash. Things are about to get a lot more difficult for the Bucs, as a bunch of playoff contenders are up next.
On Deck: vs. Brewers, @ Cardinals, @ Mets
6) Milwaukee Brewers (13-12, +$120) (LW: 7) The Brew Crew are playing their best ball of the season, and they’re finally starting to look like the club that made the playoffs a year ago. SP Yovani Gallardo made a bit of history on Wednesday, pitching a shutout and blasting a solo homer for the only run of the game against the Pirates. Milwaukee pitchers have only given up 13 runs in four games since then.
On Deck: @ Pirates, @ Reds, vs. Cubs
7) San Francisco Giants (12-11, +$17) (LW: 10) The Giants may have the worst offense in baseball (3.57 runs per game), but the pitching staff hasn’t conceded more than five runs in 14 straight games. They’re 10-4 in that stretch after starting the season just 2-6, and now look like the team that many thought could compete in the NL West at the onset of the season.
On Deck: @ Cubs, @ Rockies, @ Dodgers
8) San Diego Padres (11-14, -$49) (LW: 4) The Pads have now dropped five straight and eight out of nine to plummet from the face of the sports betting earth. Getting swept in Dodgertown is nothing new for opponents this year, as no one has yet to figure out how to go into Chavez Ravine and win yet this season, but at some point, a dismal offense which has averaged just 4.0 runs per game has to wake up.
On Deck: vs. Rockies, vs. Diamondbacks, @ Astros
And the rest…
9) Chicago Cubs (13-11, -$109) (LW: 9)
10) Philadelphia Phillies (12-10, -$130) (LW: 8)
11) Houston Astros (11-14, -$284) (LW: 14)
12) Colorado Rockies (9-14, -$426) (LW: 12)
13) Arizona Diamondbacks (11-14, -$451) (LW: 15)
14) Atlanta Braves (11-13, -$481) (LW: 11)
15) New York Mets (10-13, -$672) (LW: 13)
16) Washington Nationals (6-17, -$914) (LW: 16)
