Boxing betting fans have had an exciting spring but the best has yet to come.
One of the main events so far was a tilt between respected fighter Winky Wright and Paul Williams, the man who so many elite boxers continue to avoid.
Williams, who has been avoided by fighters like Kelly Pavlik and Shane Moseley, dismantled Wright, throwing over 1000 punches in the 12-round bout. Williams would be considered a rising star in boxing but because of his freakish size and wing span, there aren’t many fighters that want to engage him.
As Williams shifts his focus to potential future fights, the future fight that the entire world is wondering about is the May 2nd bout between Ricky Hatton and Manny Pacquiao.
Hatton, who’s confidence was shattered at the hands of Floyd Mayweather Jr. last year, is now training with Floyd Mayweather Sr. in hopes of regaining his top standing. Hatton, who was known for his relentless aggression and constant forward attack, is now learning some defensive techniques.
Meanwhile, Pacquiao, who many boxing betting handicappers consider to be not only one of the best of this generation but one of the best of all-time, is training again with Freddy Roach. But for the first time, Roach, who is battling Parkinson’s disease, invited former heavyweight Michael Moore to aid in the coaching.
Pacquiao is off a superb win over Oscar De La Hoya and a lot of people wonder if Hatton can do any better. Pacquiao entered that fight as an underdog but now he’ll be the favorite against Hatton.
Pacquiao has recently moved up in weight classes, such as for the De La Hoya fight, but he hasn’t lost any of his speed or power. That’s a scary for a guy like Hatton, who is used to being the hunter, not the hunted.
Hatton had a lot of problems with Mayweather’s speed and if Pacquiao can put his speed on display, Hatton will have a tough time hitting him once again.
With Pacquiao at the top of his game, don’t be surprised if he dominates Hatton, which would set up a potential epic battle with Floyd Mayweather, who might then come out of retirement.
