Friday sees some interesting MLB betting match-ups, with the upstart Florida Marlins begin a three-game set with the defending World Series champion Philadelphia Phillies at Dolphin Stadium. Florida roared out to an 11-2 start against the moneyline (+9.9 units) coming into Tuesday’s matchup at Pittsburgh, and were also an impressive 10-3 against the runline (+8.54 units) during the streak.
Philadelphia had dropped three of its last four outings heading into its midweek series against Milwaukee, as Phillies punters continue to be hurt by poor pitching. Philly ranked 28th in team ERA (6.87), 25th in WHIP (1.57), and was 30th in quality starts (2) before this week’s schedule.
Over in the American League, the defensively challenged Cleveland Indians entertain the Twins for a trio of games beginning on Friday, with Minnesota taking the field without Joe Mauer (kidney). The defending AL batting champ is on the 15-day disabled list and is expected to make his return in early May for the Twins, who are also missing setup man Jesse Crain (shoulder) for the series with Cleveland.
The Indians don’t need much help at the plate, where they ranked second in runs per game (6.38), OPS (.875), and home runs (22) before Tuesday’s contest against Kansas City. Stopping the opposition from scoring has been Cleveland’s downfall en route to their early-season sub-.500 record, as the Tribe ranked 29th in ERA (6.95) heading into their series with the Royals.
