It was a chaotic week at the top of the college basketball betting world last week. Check out how the #1 line would look if the NCAA Tournament started on Monday.
#1: Syracuse Orange (16-7 ATS, 25-2 SU) - Would Syracuse be the #1 overall seed if the dance started today? It certainly looks to be that way after the Orange snuck out of DC with a 75-71 win over Georgetown last week. This will clearly be the tell-tale week for HC Jim Boeheim's bunch. A trip to Providence is a perfectly placed sandwich game, as the Friars hit the schedule just five days after their trip to the Verizon Center and four days before the Villanova Wildcats pay a visit to the Carrier Dome. That showdown with Villanova may be the best college basketball betting bash this week. The Orange are hosting the East Regional, so they can't stay there, so instead, we'll have no choice but to send them to the South.
Up Next: Away @ Providence, Home vs. Villanova
#2: Kentucky Wildcats (14-11 ATS, 26-1 SU) - If the Wildcats hadn't nailed down a #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament before Saturday, they certainly did last weekend with a massive win at Vanderbilt that, for all intents and purposes, wrapped up the SEC East title. The sailing should be relatively smooth from here on out for the rest of the regular season, and anything more than four losses going into tourney time would be shocking. That should be good enough one way or the other to keep the Wildcats playing in the East Region as the top seed.
Up Next: Home vs. South Carolina, Away @ Tennessee
#3: Purdue Boilermakers (12-13-1 ATS, 23-3 SU) - Purdue may be the hottest team in the country, and it moves up to the #1 line this week. As long as the winner of the Big Ten Tournament is either Michigan State, Purdue, or Ohio State, it feels like that team is going to grab a #1 bid to the dance. Even though the 12.5-point spread proved to be just a bit too much for HC Matt Painter's club at home against Illinois, the Boilermakers' 60-57 win at Ohio State was their second truly landmark victory in as many weeks. It's hard to ignore a team that has wins at Michigan State, at Ohio State, and a sweep against Illinois to its credit. Just like with Syracuse though, Purdue has a bad scheduling spot this week heading to Minnesota right before hosting the Spartans on Saturday. The Boilers would love to stay in the Midwest, but for now, they'll have to settle being on the #1 line out West.
Up Next: Away @ Minnesota, Home vs. Michigan State
#4: Kansas Jayhawks (10-13-1 ATS, 26-1 SU) - College basketball betting fans have to be getting angry with the Jayhawks. They've now failed to cover the spread in six of their L/7 after "only" beating Colorado down by 20 points at Allen Fieldhouse on Saturday. A Big Monday game at home against Oklahoma is the last real slam dunk on this schedule, but even if Rock Chalk does lose two of those three against Okie State, K-State, and Mizzou, it should still be just fine for a #1 seed in the Midwest Bracket come tourney time.
Up Next: Home vs. Oklahoma, Away @ Oklahoma State
