The #4 line became really mixed up from last Monday to this one, with several teams shuffling in and out. When the dust settled, here's how we make March Madness picks for who will grab fourth seeds in the dance and where they'll turn up in the brackets.
#1: Vanderbilt Commodores (12-11 ATS, 20-6 SU) - The 'Dores had their chance, but they came up just short of landing their biggest victory of the season at home against Kentucky on Saturday. The loss won't ultimately hurt them any, as they'll stay in the #4 hole in the South Region without any doubts this week, but we could've projected this team as high as a #2 with that win. It's still not out of reach for Vandy either, so don't write this team off quite yet. The L/4 games are all very, very winnable, making this team very popular for March Madness picks in the future. But at this point, the Commodores are a #4 in the South.
Up Next: Home vs. Georgia, Away @ Arkansas
#2: Georgetown Hoyas (11-10 ATS, 18-7 SU) - Georgetown had its chance to sneak closer to the #1 line against the Orange last week, but after getting swept in the season series, it seems more and more likely that the Hoyas are heading towards the #4 line instead at this point. There's still plenty of time to make up ground, but unfortunately for HC John Thompson III, there's also plenty of time to slip back the other direction. These last four games of the regular season are incredibly important. Georgetown will stay in the East for now, but this is a club that could ultimately end up anywhere from a #2 seed to a #7 seed depending on these L/4 regular season games.
Up Next: Away @ Louisville, Home vs. Notre Dame
#3: Butler Bulldogs (12-17 ATS, 25-4 SU) - The Bulldogs didn't just beat Siena on Saturday, they beat the Saints down. Now, all that's left for Butler is a game at Valpo before the Horizon League tournament. Stringing together a few more wins will give this team a very impressive record and resume for the Selection Committee to digest. It feels like something has to bounce Butler's way here. Either the Bulldogs deserve to move up to the #3 line, or they should at least get some protection by getting to stay in the Midwest, but someone has to go to the West Bracket, and it seems like right now, Butler would be that team.
Up Next: Away @ Valparaiso
#4: Michigan State Spartans (10-17-1 ATS, 21-7 SU) - The Spartans are falling fast, and the worst of their most recent losses came at home on Sunday to Ohio State. For the first time in months, Michigan State is no longer in first place in the Big Ten, and with the one game of next week coming in West Lafayette, things could get worse before they get better. Not only does MSU fall to a #4 seed, but it has to go out West right now.
Up Next: Away @ Purdue
