With the regular season dwindling away quickly, we put out the weekly NBA power rankings for the most important players in the league...
LeBron James, Cleveland Cavaliers (29.9 PPG, 7.1 RPG, 8.5 APG) (LW: 1) The King has become much more mortal over this last week, as his team has dropped a few games and is just 1-4 ATS in its L/5. However, last Thursday's 43 points, 15 assists, 13 rebounds, four blocks, and two steals against the Nuggets proved once again just how good LeBron can be, which is why he seems like he has cemented his place atop the NBA power rankings.
Kevin Durant, Oklahoma City Thunder (29.8 PPG, 7.6 RPG) (LW: 2) The streak is finally over. "All" that Durant did on Wednesday night against the Spurs was score 21 points and bring down 12 rebounds, but his stretch of games of scoring at least 25 points ended at 29. Still, this is a kid that has scored at least 20 points in all but five games this season, and no one else in the league can say that. OKC's nine-game winning streak came to a halt, and suddenly, it has gone cold ATS, failing to cover four straight.
Chris Bosh, Toronto Raptors (24.5 PPG, 11.4 RPG) (LW: 3) We're not going to fault Bosh for his ankle injury at this point, but it is pretty apparent that the Raptors are in big trouble without him. The team narrowly beat Washington at home and was throttled by Portland there on Wednesday night. The only comfortable win of the bunch came at New Jersey, and the only thing impressive about that win is the fact that it was at New Jersey...
Dwight Howard, Orlando Magic (18.7 PPG, 13.5 RPG) (LW: 5) He's Superman! Howard has scored at least 22 points and brought in at least 16 rebounds in four straight games, and he has led the Magic to wins both SU and ATS in three of their L/4. He's also got 17 blocks in those four games to boot. If Howard can continue at this pace, Orlando is going to be fighting for a spot in the NBA Finals once again.
Dirk Nowitzki, Dallas Mavericks (24.8 PPG, 7.6 RPG) (LW: 6) Nowitzki has to love the fact that he has some new friends on his team. Since the F Caron Butler deal, the German national player has scored at least 23 points in all of his games to raise his average to 24.8 points per game. He's not being asked to do nearly as much everywhere else on the court, so Nowitzki can focus more on scoring. His value is skyrocketing as a result, and when Butler gets back into this lineup and more acclimated with his surroundings, the Mavs are going to be tough to beat. They've rolled off five straight winners heading into Friday clash with Atlanta.
And the rest...
Carmelo Anthony, Denver Nuggets (29.1 PPG, 6.3 RPG) (LW: 4)
Joe Johnson, Atlanta Hawks (21.7 PPG, 4.7 RPG, 4.6 APG) (LW: NR)
Amare Stoudemire, Phoenix Suns (21.5 PPG, 8.7 RPG) (LW: 8)
Tim Duncan, San Antonio Spurs (19.1 PPG, 11.0 RPG) (LW: NR)
Stephen Curry, Golden State Warriors (15.5 PPG, 4.2 RPG, 5.3 APG) (LW: NR)
