Western Conference Showdowns Highlight Weekend Action

NBA Weekend Preview
The top two teams in the Western Conference collide on the weekend NBA betting schedule when the Nuggets head to Los Angeles to face the Lakers.

The Lakers should be looking to exact a little revenge on the Nuggets on Friday night. The first time Los Angeles and Denver met up this season in November the Nuggets crushed the Lakers 105-79 as a 4.5-point home favorite on the NBA odds.

Carmelo Anthony led the Nuggets with 25 points in that game, and J.R. Smith poured in 20 points. Kobe Bryant and Andrew Bynum each netted 19 points for the Lakers, who were missing Pau Gasol in the loss. The Lakers’ offense went ice cold in the second half, as they scored only eight points in the third quarter and 23 points total in the half.

In Friday’s rematch the Nuggets will be shorthanded. Denver leading scorer Anthony has missed the Nuggets’ last nine games with a sprained left ankle and he isn’t expected to be ready to return on Friday. Denver missed Anthony on Wednesday in a 109-97 loss to Phoenix. Nene Hilario led the Nuggets with 15 points, as Denver shot 44% from the floor and only 69% from the free-throw line in the loss.

The Lakers had their own trouble Wednesday night after barely getting past Charlotte 99-97. Lamar Odom led L.A. with 19 points, while Kobe Bryant was slowed by a sore left foot and had only five points on 2-of-12 shooting.

After Friday night’s contest the Lakers and Nuggets both return to the court right away on Saturday with another Western Conference matchup. Los Angeles travels to Portland on Saturday looking to snap a losing streak versus the Trail Blazers. Portland upset the Lakers 107-98 in early January as a 4-point home underdog. That was the Blazers’ third straight win against the Lakers and they’ve won nine in a row at home against Los Angeles.

The Nuggets head to Utah on Saturday looking to continue their recent dominance versus the Jazz. Denver has already faced Utah three times this season and they won all three matchups while going 2-0-1 ATS. Overall the Nuggets have won five of their last six versus the Jazz while posting a 5-0-1 record ATS.
