NBA Betting - Weekend Wagering Preview
Saturday's NBA betting board has just six games on the go but there are some interesting matchups to wager on. Here's a look at this weekend's best action from the pro hardwood:
Atlanta Hawks at Orlando Magic
Orlando will have a day off after meeting Boston before climbing in the ring with Atlanta on Saturday. The Magic and Hawks are fighting it out for the top spot in the Southeast Division, with their most recent meeting going to Orlando. The Magic smacked Atlanta in the face with a 113-81 blowout, covering the NBA point spread as a 3.5-point home favorite on January 9.
Since that meeting, the Magic had gone 8-8 heading into Thursday's game against the Celtics. Orlando was the best three-point shooting team in the NBA last season, but has hit only 36 percent of its shots from beyond the arc this year. In a 99-94 loss to the Grizzlies on Tuesday, the Magic were 13-for-35 from the perimeter but went just 1-for-10 in the fourth quarter.
The Hawks had a three-game winning streak snapped by a 105-90 loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday night. Atlanta looked slow and careless in the final side of a two-game Texas road trip. They watched as San Antonio dominated the boards, 60 to 45, and shot just 25 percent from three-point range, finishing 5-for-20 from beyond the arc.
New Orleans Hornets at Memphis Grizzlies
Hornets point guard Chris Paul put on a show against the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday night. Paul dropped in 38 points and dished nine assists, leaving Golden State guard Monta Ellis flat-footed on numerous plays. Paul challenges another top-tier point guard in Chicago's Derrick Rose on Friday, before heading to Memphis.
The Grizzlies have been one of the best teams in 2010. Heading into Friday's game with the Spurs, Memphis had won three straight games and is 10-3 this month with a 9-4 record against the NBA pointspreads. Rumor has it that forward Zach Randolph, who is averaging 21 points and 12 rebounds, will be named as a reserve for the Western Conference All-Star team. He scored 24 points and pulled in 13 rebounds in a win over Detroit on Wednesday.
New Orleans and Memphis met just last week with the Hornets coming away with a 113-111 win as 3.5-point favorites at New Orleans Arena. Both teams struggled from outside while New Orleans won the war in the paint, scoring 68 of its 113 points from inside the key. The final score went over the 203.5-point total.
