Once again, the Big East looks like the giant gorilla of the college basketball betting world. But how are the teams ranking against each other? Find out in this week's Sportsbook college basketball power rankings...
1: Villanova Wildcats (14-4 ATS, 18-1 SU) (LW: 1) With the Longhorns dropping two games last week, the Wildcats could reasonably have a gripe to move up as high as #2 in this week's college basketball power rankings. Having a 7-0 record in Big East play (6-1 ATS) is mighty impressive.
On Deck: Home vs. Notre Dame
2: Syracuse Orange (13-4 ATS, 20-1 SU) (LW: 2) Trying to figure out whether Syracuse or Villanova has been more impressive this season is splitting hairs. Both deserve to be #1 seeds in the NCAA Tournament right now, even though the Cuse failed to beat the college basketball betting line at home against Marquette on Saturday. Their impressive win over Georgetown should silence any critics.
On Deck: Home vs. Georgetown, Away @ DePaul
3: South Florida Bulls (11-6-1 ATS, 12-7 SU) (LW: 4) It's not often you see South Florida score 109 points in a game, but that's what happened at Providence on Saturday night. Now, can the Bulls string together some home wins in conference?
On Deck: Home vs. Seton Hall, Home vs. Pittsburgh
4: Marquette Golden Eagles (8-5 ATS, 11-8 SU) (LW: 5) The Eagles just cannot catch a break. Two more road losses by close margins were heartbreaking for them last week, and their chances of securing a bid to the NCAA Tournament are quickly fading. Still, this is clearly one of the better teams in the conference and it’s going to be incredibly dangerous for the rest of the year.
On Deck: Home vs. Rutgers, Away @ Connecticut
5: Pittsburgh Panthers (9-6-2 ATS, 15-4 SU) (LW: 5) The Panthers had their worst week of the season last week when they were dropped by both Georgetown and Seton Hall. Still, expect to see better this week with two very winnable games against must easier competition.
On Deck: Home vs. St. John's, Away @ South Florida
6: St. John's Red Storm (9-7 ATS, 12-7 SU) (LW: 3) St. John's lost to both Connecticut and Villanova last week, which really put a damper on their chances of making a lot of noise in the Big East. Don't be surprised if this team is under .500 in a few weeks.
On Deck: Away @ Pittsburgh, Away @ Rutgers
7: Georgetown Hoyas (8-6 ATS, 15-3 SU) (LW: 8) After a disappointing season in '08-'09 that ended in a first-round knockout in the NIT, the Hoyas are certainly heading back to the NCAA Tournament, and they're going to do so as a lethal team. They managed to do something this year that no one else has: beat Pittsburgh on the road. Now, they'll try to be the second team to win in the Carrier Dome before welcoming in the Dookies.
On Deck: Away @ Syracuse, Home vs. Duke
8: Notre Dame Fighting Irish (7-6-1 ATS, 15-5 SU) (LW: 7) At some point, the Irish are going to need another signature victory, or this season will once again go up in flames. The home date with Syracuse was a failure, but perhaps things will go better at Nova on Wednesday.
On Deck: Away @ Villanova, Away @ Rutgers
And the rest...
9: DePaul Blue Demons (7-7-1 ATS, 8-11 SU) (LW: 10)
10: Connecticut Huskies (8-9 ATS, 13-6 SU) (LW: 13)
11: West Virginia Mountaineers (7-10 ATS, 15-3 SU) (LW: 14)
12: Providence Friars (6-9 ATS, 11-8 SU) (LW: 9)
13: Seton Hall Pirates (4-8 ATS, 12-6 SU) (LW: 15)
14: Rutgers Scarlet Knights (5-10 ATS, 9-10 SU) (LW: 11)
15: Cincinnati Bearcats (5-10 ATS, 13-7 SU) (LW: 16)
16: Louisville Cardinals (5-10 ATS, 13-7 SU) (LW: 12)
