Sports betting fans are sweating with anticipation as the Championship games arrive this weekend. Although the Colts are the favorites in the Super Bowl odds you can’t rule out the NFC teams as they are playing at a really high level.
For those who want to cash in big at this stage before the Super Bowl take a peek at the following breakdown of who has the edge in the NFC Championship between the Saints and the Vikings:
Quarterback: Drew Brees and Brett Favre are having an amazing season, probably the best of their careers so it’s tough to say who has the edge.
Since Favre has been here before and has the experience I’m going to lean towards him. He won a Super Bowl in 1997 and lost another the year after to the Broncos.
Brees on the other hand is 3-3 on the postseason and has never reached the Super Bowl.
Edge: Vikings
Running Game: Adrian Peterson has not been a factor in the last couple of months. He hasn’t had a 100 yard game in weeks and has fumbled the ball at the most opportune times. HC Brad Childress will put the ball in AP’s hands just long enough for the Saints to bite on play action.
The Saints make use of Reggie Bush with screen passes or Mike Bell and Pierre Thomas to run inside the tackles. There is no question the Saints have the edge in the running game.
Edge: Saints
Receivers: Both teams have enough talent to put 45 points any day of the week but the Saints WRs are always overlooked. Everybody knows Marques Colston is amazing but he’s not on any top 10 receivers list because Brees spreads the ball so efficently.
Sidney Rice, Brett Favre’s favorite weapon, scored three times against the Cowboys last weekend. Then there’s Percy Harvin who was the offensive rookie of year and Bernard Berrian, both can make an impact in crucial situations
I have to slightly lean towards the Vikings on this one , as for their Tight Ends; Visanthe Shiancoe and Jeremy Shockey are both on par and won’t tip the scales in anyone’s favor.
Edge: Vikings
Defense: This is probably one of the most important departments to consider if you are a NFL betting fan. History has taught us that defenses win championships, but the main thing is to know what those defenses did to win the big games.
Mainly you have to force turnovers and in order to do that you must pressure the QB, make him be uncomfortable whenever he has the ball and confuse him in critical situations.
For those reasons the Saints defense have a clear edge goes the New Orleans, Minnesota knows how to pressure the QB but they don’t have the playmakers the Saints have on the secondary.
I think the Saints 39 takeaways in the regular season, leading the NFL, speaks for itself.
Edge: Saints
Coach: Sean Payton seems more confident in himself than Brad Childress, plus he has a great relationship with Brees. Favre and Childress’s relationship have been questioned several times during the regular season.
Keep in mind Payton outcoached Bill Belichick this season and that is something not many coaches can brag about.
Edge: Saints
